Help us celebrate Charles! Please share your stories and photos, and invite others who remember Charles.
Charles Boyd Walls was born to James O. and Cronie Hart Walls on July 26, 1927 in Telephone, Texas. He passed away July 7th, 2022 a few days before celebrating his 95th birthday. Charlie grew up in the farming community of Telephone. He loved to share colorful stories of his early years on the farm. He always said the Depression didn't really impact his family, because they already survived on very little, but they had each other. In later years he enjoyed watching The Waltons, stories he could relate to so well! After graduation from Bonham High School, he enlisted in the Army where he served in General MacArthur's headquarters in Tokyo, Japan; truly a world away from Telephone, Texas! He returned to Dallas after his service and worked for the Federal Reserve Bank in the Accounting Dept. for 40 yrs. In fact, he met his wife of 52 years, Dorothy Cate Walls at a bank baseball game. In retirement Charlie and Dorothy were able to travel extensively. Some of his favorites were Switzerland, Alaska, the Pacific Northwest, and the New England states. He also loved spending time in his yard tending his vegetable and flower gardens. His specialty was tomatoes! Charlie was a longtime member of Casa View Christian Church, where he served in many capacities...Deacon, Elder, Treasurer for over 25 years, Joy Class member, and unofficial gardener. He treasured his community of friends at church as well as his neighbors. They have been a wonderful support to him through the years. Charles is predeceased by his parents, James O. and Cronie Walls; his brothers, James Earl Walls and Donald Edward Walls; his sisters Lucille Burnett and Betty Manke, his wife Dorothy Cate Walls, and his beloved companion, Gypsy. He is survived by his daughter Liz Williams (John) of Dallas; grandchildren Brian Patrick Williams (Laura) of Shreveport, La; Laura Cate Chester (Marcus) of Houston, Tx, and great grandchildren Claire Lilley Williams, Charles Walker Williams, John Lee Evans Williams, William Michael Chester, and Caroline Cate Chester. Nothing could make him laugh more than hearing stories about his grand and great grandkids. He would always smile and say...they're something else!!
We are grateful to God for his life and the legacy he leaves behind for all of us. We are especially thankful for the care he has received from the C.C. Visitation will be at Restland Funeral Home, Friday July 15th from 6 - 8 p.m. Graveside service is 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 16th at Allen Cemetery, 411 E. McDermott Dr., Allen, Tx.
