Charles Edward Thompson, 79, passed away peacefully at his home in La Marque on March 31, 2022.
Charles was born February 8, 1943 in Nachitoches, Louisiana. The family relocated to Texas during his formative years. Charles graduated from Lorraine Crosby High School in Hitchcock in 1960 and attended Texas Southern University before joining the Army. Charles worked as an instrument technician at Monsanto/Sterling Chemicals from 1965 to 1998. He founded C.E. Thompson and Sons vending company in 1978, and operations continue today as one of the largest black-owned vending companies in Texas.
He was preceded in death by Charles Thompson (father), Lillie Thompson (mother), Richard Gistand (brother) and Jesse Thompson (brother). He is survived by Ollie Thompson (wife), Sarah Hampton (sister), Charles "Duck" Thompson III (son), Chris Thompson (son), Carlton Thompson (son) and a host of family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Mainland Funeral Home in La Marque on April 7 at 7 p.m.
