Charles Alfred "Charlie" Thompson Jr., 73, of North Vernon, passed away at 4:45 a.m. on Sunday, July 3, 2022, at the home of his brother.
Born May 27, 1949, in Dalton, Georgia, he was the son of the late Charles Thompson Sr. and Margaret (O'Neal) Thompson.
Charlie served in the U. S. Army from 1969 until 1972. He worked as a union painter Local #47 and was a member of ABATE. Charlie enjoyed camping, motorcycle events and NASCAR.
Survivors include his brother, Jay (Sherry) Thompson of North Vernon and Ray (Joyce) Thompson of Barkerville; sister, Jerri (Don) Colvin of Columbus; nieces and nephews, Kiara (Brent) Ferguson, Justin Thompson, Savannah Claycamp, Shawn Claycamp, and Jaylen Thompson, all of North Vernon, Vince (Ashley) Thompson of Columbus, Brandon (Carla) Thompson of North Carolina, Heather Claycamp and Andrew Claycamp, both of Jonesville; ex-wife, Susan Clous of Columbus; and step-son, Joshua Buster of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Georgia Petro.
A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 8, 2022, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to honor Charlie through the funeral home for help with expenses.
