It is with great sadness, we announce that Saturday, July 23, 2022, Charles Roosevelt Thacker of Ringgold, GA passed away at the age of 90 surrounded by his family.
Chuck was born to Oscar Columbus and Odie Mary Frances Thacker in 1932 at the family farmhouse in Rock Spring, GA. He joined the US Air Force in 1950 as an airman basic. He became a Staff Sergeant and served as a medic in the 405th Medical Group. After leaving the service, his occupations included: Sales and service tech for Hannah Adams TVs and Appliances and TV repair from his home. He joined Rossville Furniture Company as a partner and later became the President/Owner of the company. (Just as good a place as any...) He was an organizing founder of Community Federal Bank and served as a director.
In November 1952, he married Jeanne Elaine and together they raised four children. He was a member of Boynton United Methodist Church for his entire adult life. He served in a quiet way: mowing, gardening and construction projects; most did not know of all the time and talent he invested in the church. He was an excellent example of a servant for Christ. His belief in God, strong morals, love, and work ethic all combined to help him instill these values in his children.
Boynton Lions Club and its work was very important to Chuck. He presided as president for several terms and became a regional director. Being outdoors and active was a joy for him. He enjoyed camping, tennis, square-dancing, woodworking, and gardening. He had a super green thumb!
Chuck is preceded in death by his father, Oscar Columbus, his mother, Odie Mary Frances, and his siblings: Robert Acton, Roy C., Harold Columbus, Joseph Thomas, Oscar Lewis, Eula Mae Hixson, Avery Franklin, Mary Jewel Gunther, Thelma Lois Queen, and Dorothy P. Hampton.
