Charles E. Smith Sr.

Charles Eugene Smith, Sr, 79 years old of Edwardsburg , passed to his rest Feb 28, 2025 at The Chalet of Niles, after an illness. He was born April 8, 1945 in South Bend, to Lloyd and Nellie (Lyons) Smith, being a member of the ' founding Smith Family of Smith Chapel and Cemetery fame'. He grew up in Edwardsburg, and the Edwardsburg Public School System. In 1964 he entered the United States Navy and served abroad the USS Picking. After the Navy, he became a press operator in the musical instrument industry until his retirement.

Charles is survived by 3 children, Becky Percy, Charles Smith Jr of Berrien Springs and Todd (Katherine) Smith of Niles. There are 8 grand children and a sister Carol 'Beaner' VanDusen of South Bend.

Family who proceeded him in passing, are his parents, and siblings, Don Smith, Larry Smith, Robert Smith, Nancy Lauricella, Beverly Lynch, Patty Smith, Virgina Bricker, Barbara Visser and Allen Smith.

Cremation has taken place and family and friends may gather March 10, 2025 from noon to 2:00 PM at Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, 26863 West Main St, Edwardsburg, where the Service of Remembrance will begin at 2:00 with Pastor Rob Snodgrass of the United Church of Edwardsburg, officiating. Internment will follow at Smith Chapel Cemetery on Redfield Road, between Edwardsburg and Niles. The United States Navy Honor Guard and the local American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct the full Military Honors.
