It is with great sadness that the family of Charles "Chuck" William Shirk Jr., announce his sudden passing on Saturday, October 5, 2019, at the age of 75. Chuck will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 29 years Elizabeth, his children and grandchildren, along with many friends and colleagues. Chuck was born on February 26, 1944 in Rome, New York, to Caroline and Charles William Shirk Sr. Chuck graduated Rome Free Academy High School in Rome, New York in June 1962, where he was a standout athlete in football and basketball. He majored in business while attending Modesto Junior College in 1964. He had a long and successful career leading sales teams and mentoring young retail professionals during his 44 years as a Manager, District Manager and Director for Kinney Shoes, Kids Footlocker and Ladies Foot Locker. His career spanned from upstate New York, through Connecticut, Long Island, New Jersey, and finally Florida where he retired in 2009.
In 2013 he moved to the country of Ecuador to enjoy the retirement life with his wife Liz and where they made many friends and coached for the American football team at the University of Cuenca. He often took it upon himself to purchase sporting equipment and items they needed in order to be competitive in their league. Chuck was a man with many passions including, watching sports, coaching, playing volleyball, fishing, cooking, traveling, smoking cigars, drinking a good scotch and enjoying his life with his family and friends.
Chuck was preceded in death by his father, Charles, his mother, Caroline and his son Joseph. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Liz); his children, Charlene and Charles (Buddy); stepson Jon and his wife Lydia; the mother of his children Maria Teresa; his four grandchildren, Kayla, Taylor, Jacob and Mia; along with his stepsister Jan and numerous cousins.
The family invites you to come together in prayer for a celebration of life and the Order of Christian Funerals, at 12 p.m. Saturday, November 2, 2019 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 435 1st Ave N, Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250. A private family reception will follow. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Fletcher High School Sports Program ATT: Coach Reynolds 700 Seagate Ave, Neptune Beach, FL 32266.
