TSgt (retired) Charles Rose of Lee County passed away July 4, 2022 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
Charlie was born in Yolo County, California November 16, 1932, to Margaret and Kenneth Rose. The family later moved to Puyallup, Washington where he grew up and attended Puyallup schools.
Charlie served in the Air Force for 24 years. Serving during the Korean War and Viet Nam where he flew reconnaissance in his favorite aircraft, The Gooney Bird (DC7). During his service he was crew chief or flight engineer on many different aircraft ending his career as flight engineer on the C141. His numerous service medals include the Distinguished Flying Cross.
He was active in American Legion Post 30, the 40 & 8 and was a DAV van driver taking veterans to Dublin VA hospital every Wednesday.
He was preceded in death by his parent, a sister Betty Mabou, brothers Danny and Tim, and a son Charles W. Rose. He is survived by his wife, Betty Rose, daughters Margaret LaFontaine (Edward), Anne Peterson (Don), Susan Bittle (Charles), grandchildren Jacob and Matthew McArdle, Erin and Richard Peterson and Katelyn Bittle and four great-grandchildren and soon to be great-great grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at Post 30 Monday July 11, 2022 at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Post 30 or 40 & 8 train fund.
