Charles Edgar McKinney age 72 passed gracefully on May 6th near his home in Wimberley Texas after a long fight against old age.
Charles was born in Weatherford Texas on November 21, 1949. The youngest of 4 children born to Gertrude & Hugh McKinney. His family then moved to Buffalo Texas where he spent the majority of his adolescent life learning how to be handy and applying his natural mechanical aptitude toward building and repairing whatever he put his mind too. His ability to repair pretty much anything led him to a career of auto repair, hot rodding and restoration. Eventually Charles moved to Corpus Christi where he worked for Ford, Chevrolet, and opened his own Corvette repair shop during the peak of the muscle car madness in the late 60's and early 70's. These combined careers helped him develop an even greater interest in muscle cars, custom hot rods, and even racing as an engine builder and pit mechanic for A.J. Foyt racing team. Charlie's career landed him in Houston in 1976 where he met his wife, Gina. Together they had a child and decided that life in the big city is not what they wanted and moved to a secluded area outside of the small town of Wimberley. This is where Charles spent the last 42 years of his life, being a caring husband, father, and building strong relationships with his neighbors and friends.
Charles is survived by his sisters Barbara Abbott and Martha Myers, his loving wife Gina who is almost single handedly responsible for keeping him alive for the past 30 years. His son Bryan, daughter in law Christina, and granddaughter River.
He is preceded in death by his father Hugh McKinney mother Gertrude Spurlin, and Brother Hugh McKinney Jr.
