Charles William McFadden was born on July 7, 1947, to Esther and Clarence W. McFadden at Florence Nightingale Hospital, in Dallas, Texas. He left for his eternal home on May 25, 2021, in Conroe, Texas. Charles was the second child, and first son, born into their family. His mother was a "war bride '' from Australia, and his father a Navy Corpsman, when they met.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents "Nanny," Anna Mae, and "Popper," Charles McFadden, of Pasadena Texas. He was also preceded by his sister Beverly Johnson and brother Gary McFadden, and his beloved granddaughter Linda Kay Thibodeaux. He is survived by his wife Beth (Bailey) and his sister Pamela Elaine, and husband, Mike Sorich. His four children also survive him: Kim Newman (Shane), Charles, Jr. (Denise), Vanessa (Nick), and Chad (Kelly). He is also survived by two granddaughters, Pamela Thibodeaux and Shaylnn McFadden, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Charles graduated from Pasadena High School in 1965. He joined the Houston Fire Department in 1967 and served the Houston community for 35 years. Charles attained the rank of Captain before his 30th birthday, and never sought to promote again, because he wanted to be on the front lines fighting fires and serving the people of Houston. The Exchange Club of Greenway Plaza named Captain McFadden Firefighter of the Year in 1976. "Captain Mac" truly loved his career as a fireman, but his greatest service and love was for his family. He loved fishing of all kinds, West Texas motorcycle trips, and playing music. He was a talented, self-taught, musician, who played piano and guitar by ear. His favorite song to play and sing at his church was "Me and Jesus" by Tom T. Hall. Charles was a Christian from his youth when he asked his beloved Popper, a Baptist preacher, if he could be saved and was baptized.
Memorial services will be held on June 5, 2021, at 10:00 AM, at Conroe Funeral Directors, 1504 N. Thompson, Conroe, Texas 77301.
