Charles Emory Long III, 83, was reunited with his heavenly maker on September 14, 2022. Charlie was born October 12, 1938, in Harris, Texas to Charles Emory Long Jr. and Marybelle Largent.
Charlie graduated from John H. Reagan High School in 1954. He then attended the University of Texas in Austin earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. This is where he developed his extreme passion everything Longhorns. He was a West Texas oilman and a Texas Hill Country realtor extraordinaire. Friends that knew him said that he always had a smile to go along with his big heart. His love, grace, and forgiveness could be heard in his voice and seen in his crystal blue eyes. He had a knack for being able to recall everyone's name; it was something he cared about. He was always a good friend and a real gentleman, and he was loved by everyone that knew him. Charlie cared deeply about America, and he was not shy about showing his pride for his country. His passion did not end with love for country, friends, family, or the University of Texas; he cared deeply about animals as well. He was a true advocate for dogs. He often devoted his time to help find owners of dogs that came his way. Some called him a "dog magnet" which shown in the deep love for his pups. His daughters will remember him as wonderful father, provider, and friend to all. His friends, family, and dogs will miss him yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
Charlie is survived by his daughters Jenny Sweitzer of Austin, Texas and Laura Keough of Big Spring, Texas; grandchildren, Samantha, Seth, and Sutton Sweitzer; sister Cissy and husband Frank Dirr of Scotland, and his dogs Mackie and Sugar.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and his fur babies Bonnie and Rowdy.
The family is planning a celebration of life at a later date.
