A private graveside service will be held for Charles Edward Lide, 87, of Canton on May 1, 2020 at Haven of Memories Cemetery under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home. Pastor Mike Roberson officiating.
Charles passed away on April 25, 2020 in Tyler, Texas with family by his side. He was born on May 11, 1932 in Kaufman County to James Taylor Lide and May Howell Lide.
He grew up in Canton and attended Canton High School. In 1953 Charles was drafted into the US Army where he served at Fort Benning, GA as an Army MP until his discharge. On September 3, 1955 Charles married the love of his life, Martha Sides. Charles drove a local delivery truck for several years prior to graduating from the Art Institute of Dallas, he then went on to work for Southwestern Bell as a Commercial Artist. He retired from Southwestern Bell after 31 years.
Charles served two terms on the Canton City Council. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Canton where he volunteered his time. Charles was active in the community, he loved riding his motor cycles, shooting his collection of hand guns and rifles, working with senior citizens and delivering Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed oil painting, gardening and home improvement projects. Charles loved his wife and his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
Charles is survived by his loving wife, Martha Sides Lide; eldest son, Gregory Lide; son and daughter in-law, Eric and Yisauris Lide; granddaughter, Yafreisis Lide; brother and sister in-law, Howell and Joyce Lide; brother in-law and wife, James and Linda Sides; four nieces: Renate Duty & husband Jimmy, Tina Morgan & husband Gary, Shawn Sides and Stephanie Sides, two great nephews; Taylor & Jaren Duty, two great nieces; Alayna & Aubrey Morgan.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Lide.
A come and go visitation will be held for family and friends from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on May 1, 2020 at Eubank Funeral Home.
