In Memory of Charles R. Knisley, Jr.
Charles "Buddy" Raymond Knisley, Jr., age 92, beloved husband and father, passed away on March 19, 2021, at his home following a brief illness.
Mr. Knisley was born in Charleston County on June 3, 1928. He was a son of Charles Raymond Knisley, Sr. and Lorena LaFrage Knisley. A lifelong resident of the Charleston area, he grew up in the city of Charleston and on Yonges Island, which he considered "God's country." He attended Bishop England and St. Paul's High School. He honorably served his country in post-World War II for which he received the Army of Occupation Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. After his honorable discharge following the Korean War, he was awarded the Occupation Medal for Japan and the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars. He spent over twenty-five years working for the Charleston Naval Supply Center and retired as a foreman in the late 1980s. Mr. Knisley attended St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a Third Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by a son, Charles Raymond Knisley, III (Louise) of Anderson, SC; a daughter, Cheryl Knisley Randall (Joe) of Irmo, SC; five grandchildren: Gloria Knisley Duryea (Huntley) of Beaufort, SC; Charles Seabrook Knisley (Stephanie) of Anderson, SC; Allyson Randall DeSumma (Mike); Debbie Randall Dawson (BoJack); and Savannah Jo Randall, all of the greater Columbia area, SC; and four great-grandchildren, Seabrook, Wilkes, Max, and Sylvia.
He is also survived by three sisters: Lorena Duchene of Charleston, SC; Patricia Jones (Bob) of Virginia Beach, VA; and Cecelia Spell (Bob) of Charleston, SC; three brothers, Gene Knisley (Natalie), John Knisley (Sandy), and Edward Knisley, all of Charleston, SC; numerous nieces and nephews; long-time neighbors Mr. Eugene Whitley, Ms. Sarah Ball, and many dear friends.
Mr. Knisley was preceded in death by his beloved wife of sixty-six years, Maxine Fort Knisley; his parents; a sister Mary Lou Knisley Barker; and a brother, George Julius Knisley.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 pm on Monday, March 29, 2021, at Carolina Memorial Park, Funerals & Cremation located at 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406. 843-797-2222. A graveside service will be follow immediately at 2:00 pm Carolina Memorial Park.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Roper St. Francis Hospice for the care and compassion shown to Mr. Knisley during this most difficult time.
