Charles Harrison Brittin, born Janury 6, 1926 in Athens, Illinois died May 29, 2022 at his home in Garland, Texas. Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dolores Louise Krell Brittin; father and mother, John Brittin and Mae Smock Brittin; sisters: Patricia, Harriet Garmers, Virginia Stufflebeam, Betty Rudman, Helen Powilaites, and Johnette Hogstead; brothers: John, Robert, Donald and Richard Brittin. Charles is survived by his children: Richard and Donna Brittin; Douglas and wife, Denise Brittin, and daughter, Carolyn Brittin; brother- and sister-in-laws, Edward and Louise Krell, and Donna Brittin; grandchildren: Ellis and wife, Heather Brittin, Weslie Brittin and husband, Matthew Anderson, Marielle and Daniel Brittin: great-grand-children, Parker, Jonathon, and Kendall Lopez; Kayla Jacobson, Brandon Benson, and Austin and Emma Brittin; Emma and Hannah Anderson; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Charles was a founding member of the First Marine Division Association, Dallas Chapter. He served as a Corporal in the U.S.Marine Corps during WWII and participated in the battle for Okinawa. After the surrender of Japan, he spent eight months in Northern China, including Peking, Tienstin and Tanku. Charles also served as a Sergeant for three years with the 44th Division of the Illinois National Guard during the Korean Conflict where he was stationed in the states of California and Washington. Charles retired after 33 years with Anderson, Clayton Foods Division serving the Company in Jacksonville, Illinois and Dallas, Texas. After retirement in 1985, he had a lawn mowing service, enjoyed playing golf and spending all the time he could with his family. A Memorial Service and Interment will be held June 21, 2022 at Williams Funeral Home, 1600 S. Garland Avenue, Garland, Texas. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. at Williams Funeral Home, Garland, Texas. Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
