Charles H. Gabbard, age 94, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 after a full and happy life with his loving wife Louise (deceased June 11, 2019), two beloved daughters, son-in-law, four grandchildren and devoted extended family. He served our country in the Army Corps of Engineers in Korea, and settled in Knoxville as a nuclear engineer at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and later at TVA. An engineer to his core, he could fix anything, and was always happy to help any neighbor or friend in need. Charlie served on the Session and multiple committees at his Church and volunteered at Meals on Wheels and Fish. He loved skating, skiing, tennis, and travel, and led the Buckhingham Community line dancing with his typical commitment and attention to detail. He was often quiet, and when he spoke, he shared wisdom, open-mindedness, compassion, and a droll humor. His life was defined by kindness, fairness, and service.
A time of worship in celebration of Charlie's life will be held at 2:00 on Friday, July 8th, followed by an open house reception 2:30 - 4:00 at the Buckhingham Retirement Community Club House, 7303 Manderly Way, Knoxville.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to First Presbyterian Church of Knoxville, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), or to a charity of your choosing.
