Charles "Chick" Edward Ford III, age 75, passed away peacefully at his home in Virginia Beach on Wednesday, May 25, 2022. Chick was born to Charles Edward Ford Jr. and Eva Holloway Ford on September 20, 1946 in Norfolk, Virginia. Chick grew up in Norfolk's Larchmont neighborhood. He attended Larchmont Elementary School, Blair Jr. High School, and graduated from Maury High School, class of 1964. Chick attended Old Dominion University where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order, which was interrupted when he served in the Naval Air Reserve during the Vietnam War. Early in his career, Chick worked for Colonel Calvin Zedd setting up and running auctions throughout the South. He found his life's work and true success representing a number of companies, such as Delamer and Sunbilt, selling beach and swimwear up and down the East Coast from New Jersey to Florida. Like many of his peers at the time, Chick migrated from Norfolk to the Beach where he resided for over fifty years, most notably at the North End on 58th Street. He loved the beach and was a true "beach boy." His greatest joy was spending a day at the beach with his wife, Pam, sticking his toes in the warm sand and soaking up the sun while enjoying good conversation with his friends. Chick would be the first to tell you he was no saint. His social exploits at the beach were known by many. He was a good, caring person with a giving heart, and he helped many along his life's path. He was well known at the Beach; it was almost impossible to go anywhere with Chick without running into someone he knew. Chick was blessed to have wonderful friends, many who date back to his early days in Norfolk. Over the last several months as his health was failing and he was unable to talk for long on the phone, he appreciated the calls and positive thoughts passed on by his friends. He was always thankful for your prayers. Chick is survived by his wife of 38 years, Pamela Patrice Ford, his sister Donna Ford Steiner, and a number of cousins. Special thanks go out to Patrice Dargan who, as his home nurse, was dedicated, kind, and caring.A celebration of Chick's life will be held at a later date. Friends will be notified once a date and time have been determined.
