Charles J. Drongoski, 89, passed away peacefully May 3, 2021 surrounded by his family.
Chuck was born in Akron on May 24, 1931. After graduation, he joined the US Navy, served in the Korean War, and was promoted to Chief Petty Officer, retiring in 1968 with 21 years of service. He went on to teach NROTC at Garfield High School. Chuck loved family vacations, working in his yard, gardening, the Browns, Big Band music and old movies. He was a loving husband, dad, grandpa and great- grandpa.
He is survived by his loving wife Mareta Ann Drongoski? son Kenny (Patti) Farmer? daughters Phyllis (Don) Ballou, Teddy (Bill) Kassinger, Rita Zellefrow, Cathy (Adrian) Martinez, Cindy (Ruben) Cardona and Mary (Dean) Davis? numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren? sisters-in-law Betty Pastoria, Judy Willems and Linda Reynolds? brother-in-law Bill Reynolds. He was preceded in death by his mother Genevieve Trout? father Charles Drongoski? sisters Jean Drongoski & Mary Smilek? grandson Charles Ballou; and son-in-law Robert Zellefrow.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 8 at 11 AM at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1580 Brown St in Akron, where the family will receive friends beginning at 9 am. Interment at Holy Cross cemetery will immediately follow with military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at https://www.cff.org/givetoday/
