Charles W. Dragon, of Northampton, died July 12 2023, attended by family, he was 91 . He was pre-deceased by his brother Peter Dragon and his wife Barbra I. Dragon of Phoenix, Arizona; his mother Harriet W. and father Hector A Dragon.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years Veronica (Ronnie) J. Dragon, his sons; Paul Dragon, daughter in law Ceil Reynes-Slater, Peter Dragon, daughter-in-law Mary Ruth Burke, Charles A. Dragon, daughter-in-law Susan Skorupski Dragon, daughter Martha Dragon, son-in-law Joseph Dunn, grandchildren; Alexa Dragon and Dakota Dragon, nieces; Debra Dragon Gortman, Laura Dragon, and Susan Dragon.
"Chuck" attended Northampton High School, was a graduate of Monson Academy and Nichols College. He went on to run the family business "H.A. Dragon Optician" for 46 years alongside his wife Veronica. They retired in 2000. Chuck was often overheard saying that "retirement was the best job he had ever had..
He was a communicant of the former St Mary's church where he was a lecture for many years also of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, and St Mary's of the Isle Nantucket. He served on the former Northampton Co- operative Bank Board of Directors and had held a position on the Northampton Board of Appeals. He was a lifelong member of both the Elks and Lions club where he enjoyed their many social activities along with spending time with his good friend(s) Bob Finn and Ed Gross. He was a boy scout Weblo leader and had hiked the Presidential Traverse Trail in the White Mountains during the Bicentennial year with his sons. Upon retirement he spent time both in Northampton and on Nantucket where he enjoyed watching his grandchildren swim and play softball. He also enjoyed going out on his boat with the family. Chuck also loved to mow his lawn on one of his favorite tractors, tending to his vegetable gardens, blueberry patch and flowers while at North St. In his earlier years he was a beekeeper and enjoyed spending time at his woodlot in Hatfield often accompanied by one of the family's many rescue dogs by his side.
The Dragon family would like to express their gratitude to the Brookhaven Hospice, Staff at Care One Rehab, as well as Staff at Orchard Valley at Wilbraham.
