Charles (Charlie) Lee Coon, 72, born June 15, 1949 in Oakland, California to Hazel May (Heuer) Coon and LeRoy Eugene Coon passed away Thursday, October 21, 2021 at his home.
Charlie currently resided in Winchester, VA but had lived in Berryville, VA and Bluemont, VA.
Charlie spent most of his life behind the steering wheel. He was a professional driver and enjoyed it. Had a gift for direction before GPS. In his early years he was a member of the Dunn Loring Volunteer Fire Department. He drove a taxi for a while and soon owned his own Taxi and Limousine Service. He was a dispatcher for VDOT and then worked for Loudoun Co. Public Schools in the transportation department. His last position was Transportation Supervisor at Ashby Ponds in Ashburn, VA.
Charlie enjoyed woodworking, remodeling, mowing lawns, cooking BBQ, watching baseball, feeding the birds, fussing at the squirrels. He loved telling detailed stories, listening to bluegrass, singing from the Red Hymnal, and collecting treasures from auctions. He was a challenging Scrabble partner and could do crossword puzzles in ink, in under twenty minutes. Charlie was a pure luddite, he liked to pay for stuff with cash, and was not a fan of cell phones or social media.
He leaves behind his daughter Elizabeth Stotler (Jeff) three granddaughters, Nadine Stotler, Clare Stotler and Marisa Stotler; a sister, Janeth Doyle; a brother, Timothy Coon (Vicki); ex-wife Janice Watson; and stepdaughters, Sarah Steel and Kelly Brooks (Henry).
A graveside service will be held 11:00 A. M. Friday, November 12, 2021 in Loudoun Ebenezer Cemetery, Round Hill, VA.
