Charles David Burns passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2022, in Garland, Texas, at the age of 77. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. His journey on Earth started when he was born in Mercedes, Texas, to Rufus Odell Burns and Berta Maudine Blankenship on July 10, 1945. Charlie spent his childhood in Mercedes, Texas and attended Mercedes High School. He married Dorthy Janice Gilliam on July 9, 1965, and they enjoyed 56 years together. Charlie began working at KRGV as a camera man right out of high school. He spent most of his career there, eventually becoming one of the highest performing salespeople at the station. Charlie was a resident of Llano for 8 years after leaving Kerrville, Texas, where he and Janice originally retired. He was able to achieve his lifelong dream of seeing all of Texas from an RV after joining the Lonestar Scouts RV Club, during which time he and Janice made life-long friends.
Those who knew Charlie best knew that he loved getting to know people and telling stories. Charlie never met a stranger. He enjoyed fishing, woodwork, and gardening later in life. Charlie loved listening to music of all kinds, but his favorite was the blues. He could often be found ensuring his truck and the RV were always spotless. In addition to loving his human family, Charlie loved all pets, most of all Buddy and Toby.
Charlie is preceded in death by his wife, Dorthy Janice Burns (Gilliam); his parents, Rufus Odell Burns and Berta Maudine Burns (Blankenship); and brother, Robert Burns.
He is survived by his sons, Kevin Burns and wife, Christine, of Frisco, Texas, and Todd Burns and wife, Becky, of Houston, Texas; and grandchildren, Zachary and Logan Burns.
