Charles William Bohannan Sr., 89, of Abilene, formerly of Stamford passed away Tuesday April 11, 2023 in Big Spring. Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 18, 2023 in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene with Doug Roysdon officiating, directed by Kinney-Underwood Funeral Home.
Charles was born November 10, 1933 in Stamford, Texas. He is the son of Dee Monroe and Bernice Lee (Toney) Bohannan. Charles attended Stamford Schools and joined the United States Army in 1949, retiring in 1974 with multiple overseas deployments during the Vietnam and Korean Wars. He received numerous commendations throughout is military career. After his military retirement he worked as a pipe fitter and welder for many years.
Charles enjoyed County & Western dancing, watching old Westerns, John Wayne being one of his favorite actors and playing pinochle. His true passion was spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter Jodee Denise Beans; brothers Terry Lynn Bohannan and Glendale Bohannan.
He is lovingly survived by his children Charles W. Bohannan Jr. of Dallas, Shannon Lee Bohannon of Anson, Elaine Gilbreath of Abilene, Dallas Matthews of Burleson and Chad W. Bohannan of Post Falls, Idaho; one sister Linda Sue Howard of Arizona and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
