Charles "Charlie" Baker
Help us celebrate Charles! Please share your stories and photos, and invite others who remember Charles.
Longtime Nottingham resident Charles Baker, just days shy of 91, passed quietly on Saturday, Dec 18th after a long battle with COPD. He lived with his daughter in Epping, NH and received wonderful care from the Rockingham VNA & Hospice team during his final days.
Charles was born in Augusta, GA to George Frank and Nancy Wells Baker. He was #9 of 10 children, and the youngest son. He was his mother's right hand on the farm where he grew up. He shared many fond memories of his childhood in Georgia and he still had a slight southern accent that we enjoyed.
When he was 17 he joined the Navy to "see the world" and it was through his Navy travels that he met the love of his life, Patricia. They made a home wherever his assignments took them during his 20 year career. In 1969 they settled in Nottingham, NH where they had a gentleman's farm. He was fondly nicknamed "MacGyver" by his daughters as he loved a challenge and could solve any problem that came his way.
Charles had a second career as a Master Electrician at Kingston-Warren Corporation in Newfields, NH and retired with 25 years' service and many great friends.
In addition to his parents, Charles was predeceased by his loving wife Patricia, his brothers George, Harold & James, and his sisters Ruth, Evelyn, Doris, Earline, Juanita & Betty.
He is survived by his daughters Kathleen McDonald and husband Bob of Raymond, NH; Susan Nickels and husband Michael of Deerfield, NH; Charla Stone & husband Eric of Epping, NH; grandchildren Chris & Brandy Nickels , Ashley & Jonathan Johnson, Aimee & Michael Hayes, Maura McDonald & Jesse, Jonathan McDonald & Kristina, Patrick McDonald, Rachel Stone & Adam; great grandchildren Blaine, Tyler, Lily, Kamrien & Piper. Charles leaves behind many nieces and nephews from all over the country.
Brewitt Funeral Service & Crematory, Inc. will be assisting the family with final arrangements and a private ceremony will be held at the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH in the near future.
