Charles Francis Applebee, Jr., age 76 of Gainesville, GA, peacefully passed away Monday, October 4, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Charlie was born September 28, 1945, in Atlanta, GA to the late Charles Francis Applebee, Sr., and the late Amy Witherspoon Applebee; also preceding Charles in death is his wife, Donna Willis Applebee and son-in-law, Dennis W. AsKew.
Charlie is survived by wife, Joan W. Applebee; children and step-children, Kimberly Applebee AsKew, Charles "Chuck" Francis Applebee, III (Lenna), David Willis Applebee (Stephanie), Robby Wahnschaff (Marisa) and Joe Wahnschaff; beloved grandchildren, Taylor & Jorge Guerra, Alex & Emily AsKew, Jessica AsKew, Jonathan Applebee, Katherine Applebee, Jackson Applebee, Nicolas Applebee, Benjamin Applebee, Harper Wahnschaff, Emma Wahnschaff; sister-in-law, Martha Willis (Joe); niece, Kirby Burgess; and nephew, Zach Burgess
Charles attended Georgia Military Academy, and graduated in 1963 from Briarcliff HS, where he was the band captain. He attended the University of West Georgia in Carrolton and went to Georgia State University. After college, he joined his father at Applebee-Church Inc., Charlie was a president of Sun Manufacturing, and then worked at Mitsubishi for over 23 years as product manager in air recovery and product management.
"Coach" Chuck Applebee won football and baseball championships at both Norcross and Northeast Athletic Association. Over his career on and off the field he served in numerous community rolls including The President of Rockbridge Elementary, Norcross HS Band Booster President, Norcross HS Football/Athletic Booster President, Norcross Youth Football Board of Directors, NEAA Board of Directors, Coached of the 1981 Championship Trojans. He ran Drum Corps International World Championships in 1984. He was the neighborhood Pool Guy for Spalding Corners. He was an active member of the J's and G's Social Club.
Charlie had numerous friends but the most influential were Ben Fleury, Bill Price, and Scott Jeffery. If you knew "Chuck/Charlie" you knew his love for His Country, his Family, His Community and all his dear friends.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society in loving memory of "Charles Francis Applebee, Jr."
