Charles R. "Chick" Allen passed away peacefully on February 11, 2022. Chick was born on April 4, 1923 in Johnstown PA to Elsie (Miller) and Leander Allen. He was a WWII Veteran and was awarded a Purple Heart for his service. He moved to Akron in 1958 and owned Chick's Sunoco on Copley Road for many years, where he was an important member of the community and gave freely of his services to those in need.
Chick was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, Stella M (Hochevar) in 1963 and Betty J (Bowman) in 2011, his sisters, Amanda Allen and Ethel Petherbridge, his brothers, Landy, Earl and Don Allen, his daughter Lisa J Allen and son Bradden J Messer.
Chick will be forever remembered by daughters and sons-in-law, Cris and Bob Yehle, Mindy and Doug Arnold, Rozanne and Mike Emich, Stephanie Allen and Bob Griffiths, daughter-in-law, Betty Messer, his bonus daughter, Lynda "Kelly" Johnson and her family, and his brother Lew and his wife Mary. He also will be greatly missed by his granddaughter, Kim Larsen and her children, Ava and Graham; his grandsons, Michael Yehle and his wife Jenn; Eric Yehle, his wife Tiffany and their children Isabell, Ella and Charlie; Bill Yehle, his wife Beth and their children, Brady and Avery; Jon Arnold, his wife Ann and their children Addy and Olivia; Stephen Arnold, his wife Jenn and their children Clare, Thomas and Amelia; Matt Arnold, Mitch Messer, Spencer Messer and his son, Carson; and Justin Messer as well as many nieces and nephews. Chick will be fondly remembered by his good friend, Butch Pahl and many other friends that have stayed in touch with him through the years. After Betty's passing, Chick found a welcoming environment and wonderful friends at the Church in the Valley where he will be loving remembered. His church family showed their love for him in many ways and he appreciated them greatly.
His family would like to thank the entire staff at Sunrise Assisted Living for their love, care and patience with Dad (and us). We would also like to thank the nurses, the chaplains and social workers of Kindred Hospice for the wonderful care and compassion offered to Dad as his well lived life came to an end.
The family will receive friends, WEDNESDAY, February 23, 2022 from 5:00-7:00pm, at Cox- McNulty Funeral Home, 222 Norton Avenue, Barberton. Funeral Services will be held at 11:30am on THURSDAY at the funeral home. Pastor Mark Reitinger will officiate. Burial will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
