97, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday July 21 in the same room as his wife Danae had done, exactly 17 years and one week ago. >> Born in Tunas, Cuba, his family moved to the US when he was six years old. He went to high school in the "Worlds Sweetest Town", Clewiston, Florida. He lettered in three major sports and loved just about every athletic venue. Marty attended UF graduating in 1952 with a BS in Industrial Engineering. He was a proud Army veteran, serving in the Korean conflict. After a few positions with GE he relocated to sunny Clearwater where he spent nearly 30 years with Honeywell in various aerospace guidance and military defense divisions. His last assignment was the director of operations at the Chihuahua, Mexico facility. > > A healthy mechanical aptitude, a humble origin and the sheer necessity of being the sole breadwinner of a growing family of four he became an original DIYer. Being surrounded by other engineers, there were no tasks too large or too small from pouring huge concrete slabs to erect a custom screened porch, to a complete engine rebuild of the family station wagon. This handyman fix-all trait was in practice to the last days and handed down to most of his children and grandchildren. > > He was an avid angler going fishing, crabbing, scalloping, clamming, etc. whenever he could. Because of his love for the outdoors and sports, golf became the perfect avenue for him. He chalked up a pair of holes-in-one and shot under his age numerous times. He was a member at Clearwater Country Club for decades and was still playing three times a week at the ripe old age of 96. > > But of all of his hobbies and ventures, he was most successful at being a loving husband, a caring nurturing father, and a generous grandfather. In addition, he left an endearing warm impression on countless of friends. He is survived by his daughter Gina, her husband Ron Hoffmann, son Bryan and wife Brandy Martinez and his son Neal Martinez along with 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. We would be amiss if we didn't include his feline family and companions; Kat and Patty Cake. Where Marty is going there are no 3 putts.... "Hasta manana!" Visitation is Wednesday, July 31, 10:30AM till service at 11:00AM at Moss Feaster Funeral Home, 693 S. Belcher Rd, Clearwater, FL 33764. Interment with Military Honors will take place Thursday, August 1, 12:30PM at Florida National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and in remembrance of Marty's life and love, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice. For online condolences, please visit:
