Mrs. Cecil Valley Erwin Bischof passed away peacefully in her home at Benton House on February 11, 2021 in Aiken, SC, at the age of 99 and a half. She was born July 25, 1921 in Memphis, TN to Minola L. Valley and Raymond O. Valley. She was predeceased by her parents and her stepfather, Clayton L. Roberts, her brother Raymond W. Valley "Whompy," her sister Betty V. Spicer, and her husband's Joe D. Erwin and Lawrence F. Bischof. She is survived by her daughters, Carmen E. Dyson (Richard) of Fairfax, VA, Nancy E. Gregory of Aiken, SC, Alice E. Ring of Oviedo, FL, her grandchildren, Virginia L. Dyson, Julia D. Novak (Joe), Joe T. Clarke (Sarah), Amanda C. Henley (William), Paul A. Gregory (Courtney), and seven great-grandchildren, Madelaine Wilkerson (William), Jack Novak, Mary and John Clarke, Lucy Henley, Georgia and Margaret Gregory (with another granddaughter on the way).
Cecil was a Christian and longtime member of St. John's United Methodist Church. She created award winning needlework and was an incredible seamstress, wife, mother, and grandmother. She had passion for helping others and committed her time to homemaker's co-op extension clubs and was the founder of Aiken's Overeaters Anonymous. Cecil was also a world traveler whose passion for life and contagious smile will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
A private service will be held at a later date at her final resting place, next to her true love, Joe Dodd Erwin in Rockingham, North Carolina. Memorial donations can be made in her honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (Memorial Giving 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 31805) or St. John's United Methodist Church (104 Newberry St., NW Aiken, SC 29801).
