Passed away on January 30, 2022. She was just 55 years old. Cathy is survived by her mother, Marge Dale, Rock Island; siblings, Susan (Tom) Hickey, Wauwatosa, WI; Ann (Vince) Sweeney, Evanston, IL; Julie (Mark) Hermann, Dubuque, IA; Molly (Tom) Stolmeier, Dublin, OH; and Jim (Lina) Dale, Scotts Valley, CA. She is also survived by 18 nieces and nephews, 3 great nieces, and an abundance of friends who were as important to her as family. She was preceded in death by her son, Austin, in December, 2021 and her father, Bill Dale in May, 2020.
Cathy was born in Davenport, IA on March 23, 1966. She was the 3rd girl of 5, all born within an 8 year span, and she decided early on that she was going to stand out by being the feisty one. Her fearlessness came in handy when, at the age of 14, she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. This disease tried to control her life, but Cathy simply would not let it. She was extraordinary in the face of a myriad of health issues. Ultimately, as an organ transplant survivor, she died from complications from Covid-19.
Cathy attended Alleman High School in Rock Island, IL and graduated from the University of Cincinnati. She held several jobs and made many friends at each but she really found a home at Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) where she worked for 18 years.
A memorial gathering will be held at St. Pius X Church, 2502 29th Ave., Rock Island, IL on Saturday, February 5th, from 12:30 PM until Mass at 1:30 PM. Family and friends will then gather at Mulligan's Valley Pub to toast and share stories of Cathy. Tears will surely be shed, but there will also certainly be laughs. Cheers Cathy! We will miss you and Austin for the rest of our lives.
Over the years, Cathy received several blood transfusions. Please consider donating blood at your local blood bank in Cathy's honor in lieu of flowers or memorials. Otherwise, memorials can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or a charity of your choice. Thoughts and/or memories of Cathy can be left at Jelacicfuneralhome.com.
