Catherine Ruth Buchholz, 59, of Holgate, Ohio died peacefully on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. She was born May 22, 1963 in Montpelier, Ohio to Melvin Gene and Lois (Royal) Thiel. On June 21, 1986 she married James Buchholz in Wharton, Ohio.
A profound love for music shaped the fabric of Cathy's life. She was a 1981 graduate of Riverdale High School, where she developed a love for theatre. She continued her education at the University of Toledo obtaining a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and then her master's degree from Bowling Green State University.
Cathy taught Musical Arts and Theatre at Holgate High School for over 37 years. She loved to play the piano and took great honor in instructing young children. She was the founding member of the Henry County Arts Council and member of the Ohio Arts Council and the Ohio Alliance for Arts Education. She enjoyed attending Broadway shows in her free time.
She was a faithful member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Holgate, where she was the organist and choir director.
She is survived by her mother, Lois Thiel; husband, Jim; children, Alex (Tricia) Buchholz and Austin (Shelby) Buchholz; and siblings, Constance (Tirey) Latham, Carol (Alun) Deniston, Charles (Denise) Thiel, and Catrina (Randy) Harding. She was preceded in death by her father, Gene.
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28th, 2022 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Holgate. A private burial will take place at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery on Thursday.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. at Rodenberger-Gray Funeral Home, Napoleon, and Wednesday from 4-5 p.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Peter Piano Fund.
