Catherine A. Bray, 85, of Grand Island, NE, died Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at Lebensraum Assisted Living. Visitation will be Sunday, February 27, 2022, from 4 – 6 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with a Vigil service at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, February 28, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Martin L. Egging will be the celebrant. Mrs. Bray will be cremated following the service. Inurnment will be in St. Francis Cemetery, in Ashton, NE. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.
Catherine was born October 22, 1936 at Ashton, NE. She is the daughter of Ingiatus and Florian (Gappa) Wesierski
Survivors of her immediate family include her daughters, Stephanie (James) Sheldon of Taylor, NE
Erica (Tony) Sheldon of Grand Island, NE
Sisters, Mary Bacon of Scottsdale, AZ
Elizabeth Janky of Gainesville, FL
Six grandchildren, Alex, Brady, Sarah, Nick, Emily, and Jake Sheldon
Three great grandsons, Colton Sheldon, Ignatius Sheldon, Jaxon Chilewski, and another great grandson arriving in August.
Numerous nieces and nephews, and a special childhood friend, Joan Lonowski of Grand Island, NE
Catherine grew up in Ashton, NE, graduating from Ashton High School in 1954. She worked at the Grand Island Veterans Home in the dietary from 1958 to 1967. She began working at the Lutheran Hospital in 1977 until returning to the Grand Island Veterans Home in 1987. She retired from the home in 1999. She married Martin Ed Bray on July 27, 1960 at Grand Island, NE. They lived in Grand Island. In retirement Catherine worked for the Grand Island Public Schools at Newell, Starr and Stolley Park as the “Lunch Lady” retiring for good in 2014.
Catherine enjoyed reading, visiting on the phone, tending her flower garden, and watching her grandchildren’s activities, especially wrestling.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
Memorials are suggested to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, or the Polish Heritage Museum in Ashton, NE.
Catherine is preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, Barbara Bray, brothers-in-law, Douglas Janky and Ray Bacon.
