Cassie Walker passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 5, 2021, at home in Indianapolis, at age 86. Lovingly known to family and friends as "Cassie", she was born Doris Viola Casner on May 5, 1934, at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. She is the youngest of six children to Master Sergeant Sefton Grant Casner (83d FA) and Maude Belle (n?e Van Winkle). Cassie's siblings are Jerome Casner, James Casner, Leonard Casner, Bonnie Hovis, and Ray Casner.
Cassie worked as an Art Director of a publishing company in Charlotte, NC. In 1958 she married William Scott Walker of Statesville, NC. For the next three years, she joined Scott in Charlottesville, Virginia, while completing his graduate degree. They then moved to Southern California, where they established a loving home for the next 35 years, raising three sons along the way. In later years they lived on the Hawaiian island of Oahu and Geist Lake in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Cassie's creative ambitions continued throughout her life, becoming accomplished in abstract painting, fine art photography, and spiritual songwriting. Cassie Walker's compositions have been performed in churches around the world.
Cassie is survived by her husband Scott, her three sons Tyler (Alicia), Morgan (Ericka), and Brandon (Liz); grandchildren Raleigh, Dixon, Austin, Forest, Lauren, Jonah, Avery, and Lindy; her brother Ray Casner (Gerry), and caregiver and good friend Vicky.
Cassie was a loving and caring person, living and sharing the Aloha spirit she learned from her years living in the Hawaiian Islands. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Responses may be sent to [email protected]
