Carroll Jon Wells, 85, died Saturday, May 23, 2020, at the VA Medical Center in White River Junction, Vermont.
Born Oct. 14, 1934 in West Woodstock, VT, he was the son of Edwin "Ray" and Dorothy (Townsend) Wells.
Carroll grew up in West Woodstock, VT where he attended school until joining the United States Navy in 1950 where he served during the Korean War. When he left the service with an honorable discharge in 1955, he married the love of his life Barbara Robinson, also of Woodstock, VT. He then moved to Windsor, VT and worked at the Vermont State Prison for 32 years, retiring with the rank of Sargent. After retirement, he logged for several years with his brother Ed.
A devoted family man, Carroll enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, and jeeping. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), the American Legion, and the Elks Lodge in Hartford, VT where he would attend their Saturday night dances. He loved travelling with Barbara in their RV, making several trips to Florida, and spending summers camping in Randolph, VT. He also never missed the annual 3-day Wells Family Reunion.
He is predeceased by his parents, and his brothers Kenneth "Pete" Wells and Edwin "Ed" Wells.
He is survived his wife of 63 years, Barbara (Robinson) Wells of Ascutney, VT; son Anthony "Tony"(Sharon Walter)Wells of Windsor, VT; daughter Deborah (Tim) Crotts of Naples, FL; son Carroll "CJ" Wells of Windsor, VT; and daughter Valerie (Jodi) Davidson of Weathersfield, VT. He has seven grandchildren: Amy, Anthony, Stacey, Sarah, Krystle, Paige, and Gabbi; and one greatgrandchild, Hazel. He is also survived by siblings Eleanor Van Alstyne of Chester, VT; Janice "Jan" (Jim) Luce of Palmer, AK; Joan "Joy" (Bill) Soule of White River Junction, VT; Sandra Heavisides of Claremont, NH; Daniel "Dan" (Robin) Wells of Cambridgeport, VT; and numerous nieces and nephews.
