Carrel R. McVey passed into God's arms April 4, 2021, in Sugar Land, Texas. Carrel was born in Madisonville, Texas on October 18, 1932, to parents George McVey and Lois Ethan McVey. For 55 years he was married to Diane Honey McVey.
During the Korean War, at age 17, Carrel proudly served in the Navy. He graduated from the University of Houston with his Bachelor's degree. In later life Carrel earned his Master's degree in Art at the University of Houston at Clear Lake where he did a large body of his art. He had a career in Graphic Arts working as a draftsman/designer for Tennessee Gas in the Graphic Arts Department, and for Exxon, Walsh Engineering and Coenco, Inc., where he was a partner. He finished his career working in the Engineering Department of the city of Pearland.
Carrel was a member of Alvin's Lion's Club where he was President from 1981-1982. He was a member of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Bandera, Texas where he served as Senior Warden and Junior Warden.
Carrel was a talented artist in watercolors, acrylics, lithography and monoprints, as well as being a creative woodworker. Carrel's love of nature is apparent in his art. Rivaling his love of art was his deep affection for animals. He was an ardent bird lover. Carrel loved to travel and enjoyed many cruises with his wife, Diane.
Carrel will be remembered for his outgoing personality, his gracious hospitality, his sense of humor, quick wit, and predominantly for his strong faith. He was characterized by his nurturing personality to both adults and children. Carrel was a wonderful and kind man and always truly a gentleman.
Carrel is preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa Ann McVey, son Kenneth Baxter McVey, sister Charlene McVey, brother Larry McVey, father George McVey and mother Lois Ethan McVey. Carrel is survived by his wife, Diane Honey McVey, nephew Mark Honey, niece Susan Honey and great- nephew Jackson Honey.
Graveside service will be on May 1, 2021, 1:00 PM at Forest Park East Cemetery, Webster, Texas.
