Carolyn R. (Danowski) Schmollinger, of Parklawn Circle, died Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at home after a brief illness with her family by her side. She was the loving wife of the late William F. Schmollinger for nearly 55 years, and a devoted mother and grandmother. Carolyn was born January 13, 1929 in Waterbury, the only child of Edith (Littman) and Julius Danowksi. She and seven other children were the last students enrolled at the Oronoke School, a two-room elementary school on Wooster Avenue in Waterbury, when it closed on December 23, 1938. She went on to graduate from Russell Grammar School, Crosby High School and Hartford Hospital School of Nursing. Carolyn loved to garden, and lovingly tended a garden at Cheshire Lutheran Church, where she was a long-time member. She often arranged flowers for the altar, most of which came from her prolific gardens. She also loved to read, always working through a stack of library books from the Middlebury Public Library. Carolyn was a lover of both classical and opera music. She and her husband, together with close friends, would often attend outdoor summer concerts at Tanglewood. In later years she enjoyed going to see the telecasts of the Metropolitan Opera with her daughter. Carolyn was also a very talented artist who illustrated the Hartford Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1950 yearbook. Mrs. Schmollinger leaves behind to cherish her memory, a son William F. Schmollinger, Jr. and wife Marti of Vernon; three daughters, Kristen Green and husband Alan of Bethany, Ruth Moran and husband Charles of Bethlehem, and Karen Harris and partner Patrick Mahoney of Wallingford; five grandchildren, Eric Moran and William Moran, Sarah Turrentine (Tyler), Katherine Harris and Jennifer Green. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday, July 9 at Cheshire Lutheran Church 660 West Main Street, Cheshire. Interment will be at the convenience of the family at the Cheshire Lutheran Church Columbarium. Memorial contributions may be made to Cheshire Lutheran Church, 660 West Main Street, Cheshire, CT 06410. www.wallingfordfh.com
