Carolyn Sue (Rice) Martindale, age 87, of Bloomington, died 11/16/2020 at IU Health Saxony, in Fishers, Indiana.
She was born June 28, 1933, in Bloomington, to W. Floyd and Hazel (Bryant) Rice.
After attending Speedway High School and Bloomington High School, she married Raymon Martindale II, on May 26, 1951. They had three children.
Sue worked as a hair dresser in Bloomington for nearly twenty years.
In the early 1980s she moved to Indianapolis and began working at JC Penney Hair Salon, where she became the manager. She was also part of their Marketing Planning Team and her distinctive promotional ideas were implemented in JC Penney salons throughout the state. After many successful years, she took the position of Manager at Liberty Mutual Insurance, Greenwood, Indiana. She remained there until her retirement.
Reading and cooking were among her hobbies. She also enjoyed trips to the Goodwill. Education was so important to her that at 85 years old she enrolled at Ivy Tech.
Her greatest joy in life was her children and their families. She was the matriarch of her family. She loved and was loved greatly by all. She was the one they all turned to for advice. She was full of "Sue-isms" as they became known in the family, and to many friends.
Sue is survived by her sons, Raymon (Jane) Martindale III of Nashville, Indiana and Chris (Donna) Martindale of Martinsville, Indiana; one brother, Moncel Sexton of Columbus, Georgia; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; and her faithful companion, Princess. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sallie JoE (Martindale) Miller; one great-great- granddaughter, Genevieve Goldstein; two brothers, Frederick Rice and Ronald Sexton; and one sister, Janet (Sexton) Hitchcox Gardner; and Mabel, who faithfully stayed by her side during her second bout with cancer.
Sue donated her body to the Indiana University School of Medicine. Therefore, there will be no visitation or grave side service.
A celebration of her life will take place in 2021.
