Carolyn Mae Bowen Newton, 94, entered into rest on Sunday, October 6, 2024. Born January 1, 1930, in Tifton, Georgia, Carolyn was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. I.W. Bowen Jr. She attended the University of Georgia where she earned a degree in Home Economics and later attended Graduate School at Georgia Southern College. She married the late J. Ray Newton in 1950, and they were married for 63 years. She loved her home in Millen where she lived most of her life. She enjoyed flowers and making her yard beautiful to share with others. She was an active member of Millen Baptist Church, where she loved to decorate the Church every Christmas. She was a member of Millen Women's Club, Magnolia Garden Club and Rose Society. She taught school and was also a District, State and National Accredited Flower Show Judge for many years. She had many hobbies that she enjoyed including china painting, bridge, travel, swimming, cooking and most of all watching Georgia football and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband J. Ray Newton, son Don Ray Newton and grandson Frank Inman Hull. She is survived by her daughter Karen Newton Hull and husband Jim, daughter-in-law Kathy Hendrix Newton, grandchildren John Douglas Newton and wife Victoria, Benjamin Newton and wife Skyler, Coles Doyle and husband Mark, Caroline Hatcher and husband Baker, Jim Hull Jr. and wife Michelle, and six great grandchildren Caroline Doyle, Mary Coles Doyle, Maggie Doyle, Baker Hatcher, Frank Hatcher and Hazel Rae Newton. The family would like to recognize Darlene Williams, who was Carolyn's exceptional kind caregiver for over seven years, Jennifer Butler, who also provided wonderful care in Carolyn's final days, and Thea Turner. Graveside services will be held at the Elam Baptist Church Cemetery on Tuesday, October 8th at 11:00am and the family will greet friends at the cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Millen Baptist Church or Elam Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
