On Friday, August 26, 2022, Carolyn Marie Hudak, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away from a year-long battle with cancer.
Carolyn was the only child born to Joseph and Josephine Baloniak and was a graduate of DuBois High School and the Dubois Business School.
As a young adult, Carolyn would dream of finding a job in either New York or Washington D.C., but little did she know that her dream would become reality in Washington D.C. As a member of the Young Republicans, she learned of an opportunity to work as a secretary, at the age of nineteen for congressman James E. Vanzandt. She enjoyed being a part of the political scene and working on Capitol Hill for various other congressmen and governors. She never imagined that she would meet the love of her life in our nation's Capitol.
She quickly caught the eye of a young and persistent Capitol policeman who walked miles out of his way to just say "hello" for weeks. She eventually agreed to go on a date to a Washington Senators baseball game. Carolyn married John Francis Hudak of Jessup Pennsylvania on June 1, 1963.
A year later, their first child was born, a son, John and then five years later their daughter, Catherine Marie. They raised their children in New Carrollton, Maryland, and stayed involved in many sports with the Boys and Girls Club of America. Carolyn served as a volunteer on many committees within the club, and at her childrens' schools. Carolyn and her family moved to Springfield, Virginia in the mid-1970s. She soon returned to work as a secretary for a lawn care company, followed by a secretary at the Accotink Academy, a private school for the learning disabled. John joined her at the Accotink Academy when he retired as Captain of the Capitol Police.
John and Carolyn enjoyed traveling and spending lots of time with their family, friends, and four grandchildren. After both retired, they moved back to Carolyn's hometown of DuBois, Pennsylvania in 2010. They lived at Treasure Lake for just a few short years until returning to Lake Ridge, Virginia in 2013. Carolyn and John continued to spend time with their family and reconnected with their friends of many years. They enjoyed vacationing on the beaches of North Carolina every summer and holidays remained an important part of family traditions.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her grandparents, mother, father, father-in-law, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Carolyn is survived by her husband John Francis of Lake Ridge, Virginia, son John (Wesalena) and their two daughters Ashley and Faith of Virginia, and their daughter Catherine Marie (John Shelton Hurst) of Lake Ridge, Virginia and their two children Cayla Marie (Nick Sullivan Brown) of Pelham, Alabama, and John Daniel of Lake Ridge, Virginia. Additionally, Aunt Elizabeth Masisak and her four children and their families, all of Stump Creek and DuBois Pennsylvania.
