Carolyn Evelyn Kath, 86, of Plainview, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2020 at her home in rural Plainview. She was born September 16, 1933 in Hammond to Raymond and Ethel (Dickman) Hardke. She grew up in Wabasha County area and attended Rochester High School. While in high school she was a member of the National Honor Society, and received the Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award, she graduated in 1952. On April 24, 1954 she married Alfred Kath in Hammond, they enjoyed 60 years together.
During Carolyn's working years she was employed by Mayo Clinic in the Medical Science section, Peterson Drugs in Plainview, and at IBM and Telex in Rochester. She has lived in the Plainview/Elgin area since 1973. A former member of the Evangel United Methodist Church in Rochester, and currently a member of Peace United Methodist Church in Elgin/Plainview, where she enjoyed participating in Bible Study.
Carolyn loved spending time with her family, and enjoyed gardening, cooking, and canning for them. She loved to go fishing, and spending time reading novels. Carolyn was active in many organizations including Wabasha County Extension Home Preservation. She was a former Den Mother for Boy Scouts and a 4-H Leader for many years. Carolyn was also a member of the Elgin Cheese Cakes.
Carolyn is survived by her son, James "Jim" (Connie) Kath of Stewartville; a granddaughter, Madelynne Kath, and grandson, Jacob Klomps; two great-grandchildren Hunter and Hadleigh Klomps; a sister Cyrella Abbott of Pine Island, and a brother, Raymond (Maurine) Hardke of Rochester. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, and three sisters.
The Kath family would like to thank all of the caregivers over the years who helped with caring for Carolyn, you were all very special to her.
A private family graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Plainview. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorials or flowers may be sent to: 2104 Sonke Lane NW, Stewartville, MN 55976.
