Carolyn Dahr Johnstone of Little Sunapee Road and Chatham, MA, died peacefully on May 1, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.
Carolyn was born on April 26, 1932 in Conshohocken, PA, the daughter of Beatrice and Fridtjof Dahr. She is predeceased by her sister, Frances Shoup of Moultonborough, NH and husband, David Johnstone, whom she met while skiing back in the days of the rope tow. They were married for 63 years.
Carolyn and David moved to New London in 1972 where they raised their four children. She embraced life with enthusiasm, optimism and adventurous spontaneity. After raising her children, Carolyn worked as a realtor in NH, VT and Naples, FL. She loved her work and was also passionate about traveling, gardening, birding, walks on the beach and walking at Muster Field Farm. Most importantly Carolyn enjoyed spending time with her family. She adored her grandchildren and always offered encouragement and guidance. As a champion for children, Carolyn volunteered as a guardian ad litem advocating for children in the foster care system.
Carolyn is survived by her sister Joan Lambert and husband Berkeley of Hilton Head, SC; her sister-in-law Elisabeth MacKenzie of Chatham, MA; her four children, Malcolm Johnstone (Jane), Andrew Johnstone (Andrea), Ann Donnery (John) and Jeremy Johnstone (Jennifer Hooker); and her five grandchildren, Katie Johnstone, Calvin and Henry Johnstone, and Sam and Emily Donnery.
A private family celebration will be held later this summer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations please be made to Muster Field Farm in North Sutton, NH. or consider adding a little extra to the cookie tin if you should visit the vegetable stand this year.
