Memorial services for Carolyn Sue Cantrell, 82, of Arlington, Texas, will be held Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Bro. Ty Phillips officiating.
Carolyn Sue was born on June 16, 1942, in McCaskill, Arkansas, to the late Hannie (Mac) and Aubrey Cantrell, and passed away peacefully at home with family on October 13, 2024. Carolyn Sue suffered with vascular dementia for many years.
Carolyn Sue and her family moved to Houston and finally settled in Lufkin, Texas. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin University with a BA and then a MSW from the University of Texas at Arlington. Carolyn Sue worked as a social worker for MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving), the Arlington Police Department (Victim Assistance), and for Rape Crisis in Ft. Worth. She loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren. Carolyn Sue enjoyed many years of fellowship with her church family at St. Barnabus United Methodist Church. She touched many lives, and her family and friends will miss her dearly.
Carolyn Sue is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Raley and husband Randy; daughter, Carrie Raines; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Sharon Poland; brother, John Cantrell; and brother, Gary Cantrell.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hannie (Mac) Cantrell and Aubrey Cantrell; and daughter, Cindy Pate Jellum.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Barnabus United Methodist Church in Arlington, Texas.
