Mrs. Carolyn Griggs Agerton, 87 of Pageland, South Carolina passed away peacefully on Monday March 18, 2024 at home unexpectedly. Mrs. Agerton was born on May 20, 1936 in Charlotte, North Carolina to the late Dr. D.C Griggs and Gladys West Griggs. Carolyn devoted her life to her family. She was a wonderful mother, sister, aunt and friend to all her family. She loved the beach and spent every summer vacation there where many happy times were enjoyed with family and friends. Carolyn and Tommy traveled to many places: Rome, Paris, London and Hawaii. They were trips of a lifetime that they treasured, and often remembered through photographs. Carolyn and Tommy also enjoyed attending Gamecock football games with her sister and brother in law, Phyllis and Lovia Johns for many years. Carolyn loved to garden and had many beautiful flowers and trees that created a beautiful yard. She also played the piano, and would enjoy playing hymns and sheet music that Tommy had given her through the years. Two of her favorites were the hymn, In the Garden and I wish you love. Carolyn was also a great cook, and enjoyed cooking for her family. Carolyn was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Pageland where she also taught Sunday School. Mrs. Agerton is predeceased by her husband, Tommy Agerton, her childhood sweetheart and three sisters, Mrs. Patricia G. Blakeney, Mrs. Gail G. Collins and Mrs. Barbara G. Smith. She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Huntley (Lawson) of Pageland, SC; son, Donaphan Agerton of Miami FL; dear sister, Phyllis Griggs Johns; many nieces and nephews and special family friend, Patrick Gallagher. The family would like to express their deep appreciation and gratitude to her special caregivers, Elizabeth Knight, Delane Clark, Kathy Smith, Debbie Helms and Juanita Louallen. There will be a Celebration of Life Graveside Service at 3:00 PM on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at Greenlawn Memorial Park of Pageland Mausoleum with Dr. Joel Dale officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Pageland, Po Box 126, Pageland, SC 29728.
