Carolyn A. Berry, 81, of Charleston, entered into eternal rest on Monday, December 30, 2024, embraced by the love of her family and friends, both near and far.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 6, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1695 Raoul Wallenberg Blvd., Charleston. The Rite of Committal will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens, 3093 Ashley River Road, Charleston. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Carolyn was born in Charleston on February 12, 1943, the daughter of the late Henry F. Garvin, Jr., and the late Kathryn V. Matson Garvin. She attended Blessed Sacrament School and graduated from Bishop England High School in the Class of 1960. Carolyn worked in office administration for Ruscon Construction, Lawrence Laddaga Law Firm, and later at ACH Food Brokerage. After retirement, she also worked as a personal assistant and dog caretaker for her dear friend and neighbor, Jeri.
To know Carolyn was to love her. She had friends near and far, and her kind spirit touched many lives. She loved animals and enjoyed the company of many pets throughout the years. A lifelong Atlanta Braves fan, Carolyn also delighted in supporting her baby brother's favorite USC Gamecocks. Above all, she loved her family and her church. Her proudest accomplishment was being the best Nana to her three grandchildren.
Carolyn is survived by her two children, Matthew L. Berry (Rene?) and Timothy W. Berry; her nephew, Michael J. Garvin (Denise); her niece, Kathryn Lee-Ann Garvin; her three grandchildren, Kaylee, Madelyn, and Walker; and her beloved and closest cousins, Lynn Seyle Clark (the little sister that she never had), Larry Garvin, Sr., Bobby Garvin, John J. Gilbert, Terri Matson Porcher, Vanessa Matson MacMahon (her goddaughter), Chres Matson Cook, Sandy Matson Mills, and Patti Matson Goforth.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, H. Michael Garvin and Perry A. Garvin; her husband, Cecil Glenn Berry; and her beloved firstborn son, David F. Herring.
