Carole Z. SmithCarole Z. Smith went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 28, 2022. She was born February 15, 1945 in Toledo, Ohio to Raymond and Janice (Rappleye) Zink and was raised in Blissfield, Ml, graduating from Blissfield High School in 1963. Carole graduated from Michigan State University in 1967 and was married to Stephen W Smith of Midland on August 26, 1967 in Blissfield.She taught Home Economics for two years at Fowler High School and moved to Midland following Steve's graduation from MSU in 1969.Carole was preceded in death by her husband Steve with whom she was married for fifty years, and her parents. She is survived by her son Bill of Grosse Pointe Park, daughter and son-in-law Bernie and Josh Wilmer of Indianapolis, beloved grandchildren Remington, Jamison, and Ainsley Smith, their mother, Andrea Jamison of Bloomfield Hills, brother in -law David and Linda Smith of Midland, nieces Dalyn (Todd) Wertz and Pari (Sam) Knights of Denver, and beloved friends Tom and Sherry Vandermeer of Midland.Carole totally enjoyed the 50 plus years she lived in Midland, working as a substitute teacher for Midland Public Schools for 35 years. Early on, she was active in Jaycee Auxiliary and Theatre Guild at the MCFTA. As her children began school she became actively involved as Picture Lady, Room Mother and PTO member during their elementary years and moving on to assist with yearly drama productions at Central Intermediate. With Steve, she volunteered as a timer at Midland High School track meets. Along with Steve, Carole enjoyed attending performances at the MCFTA and high school boy and girls' basketball games as well as their children's sports events.Memorable summer vacations were spent each year at Burt Lake, attending a family camp held each summer at the end of the regular camping season. These week-long adventures provided memories still talked about and laughed over many years later.Carole was known for being adventurous and treasured the memories of a cross country camping trip with Bernie to Portland, OR where Bill had moved following college graduation. They were joined in Portland by Steve and the family enjoyed a week's stay in this vibrant, exciting city before returning to Midland following the northern route to view the sites in that part of the country.Finding a relationship with Christ encouraged Carole to become involved in her church, following Bernie's leaving for college where she made many new friends, participated in Bible studies, and became a volunteer for Kids' Hope and the Pregnancy Resource Center At the age of 72, she gave in to a long-time desire, purchased an acoustic guitar and taught herself how to play it.Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 3, 2022 at Memorial Presbyterian Church with Pastor Wallace H. Mayton officiating. A luncheon in Mayton Hall will follow the service with interment to take place in Midland City Cemetery. Carole's family will receive friends at the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler Street on Thursday afternoon from 4-7 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of the service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Bosma Visionary Opportunities Foundation of Indianapolis, Midland High School Sports Booster Club, or Memorial Presbyterian Church.
