Help us celebrate Carol! Please share your stories and photos, and invite others who remember Carol.
They say with great power comes great responsibility. We say with great sorrow, comes great joy. Carol Nan Shields, age 75, of Odessa passed from this life on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at Madison Medical Resort in Odessa. On that day, our family lost a wonderful wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. Although we are greatly saddened by our loss, we can rejoice that she is no longer shackled by her horrible disease. Her spirit now soars over us and she takes her place with her mom and dad in heavenly beauty.
Carol was born April 8, 1944 in Wichita Falls, TX to the late D.O. and Louise (Jones) Daniel. She married John Edward "Johnny" Shields in Henrietta, TX on December 29, 1967. She was a great woman who would do for anyone and what was done was always right.
Carol taught school in Odessa at Ector and Bonham Middle Schools until the birth of her youngest child. For over 20 years, she volunteered her time at the public schools. As a full time homemaker, she loved sewing and was one heck of a cook. She loved traveling and doing genealogy. Carol seemed to know everyone and adopted in those she met as her "new" family. She loved working on her 15 acre lot and kept it green and beautiful.
Those left to cherish her love and memory are her husband: Johnny Shields of Odessa; three sons: George Shields and wife Shawna of Lubbock, Daryl Shields of Justin, TX, and J.D. Shields and wife Lauren of Midlothian, TX; brother: David Daniel and wife Sue of Lucas, TX; and five beloved grandchildren: Owen, Georgia Lee, Mason, Rhett, and Rhody.
Graveside services will be at Hope Cemetery in Henrietta, TX on Monday, July 15, 2019 at 11:00 am.
Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and condolences to the family may be sent online at acreswestfuneral.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Carol's memory to the Alzheimer's Association would be appreciated.
Carol Nan Shields, you will be missed by many, but replaced by none!
