Carol Ann Davis was born on October 3, 1946 in Mauston, Wisconsin, to Bernard and Anna Belle Davis. But before she reached age 2, she ventured west, moving with her family to be raised in Albany, Oregon. Following graduation from Albany Union High School in 1964, Carol enrolled at Oregon State University, eventually receiving a Bachelor's degree in Business and a Master's degree in Education.
After several years of courtship, Carol and Marv Shelby were married in 1966 at the Albany United Methodist Church. The ceremony was held on her father's 60th birthday. The newlyweds soon settled in Woodburn, their home for more than 30 years. During that time, Carol was a teacher at North Marion High School. She taught business-related subjects including typing, accounting, and in later years, office computing. Mrs. Shelby inspired many students to achieve success in school and beyond. She provided leadership and mentorship for many young women.
Carol was very active in the Woodburn United Methodist Church, women's groups, including P.E.O., and many community events. She and Marv raised two sons, Jeff and Greg, with love and teaching values.
In 2000, Carol and Marv set off on a new adventure, moving to Anacortes, Washington, where they built a beautiful house with an ocean view. Carol embraced her new community, quickly making friends at church, in P.E.O., and at the swimming pool. She was known for driving a van full of ladies from one fun activity to another. She loved flowers and frequently visited nurseries and gardens.
Carol and Marv moved back to Woodburn in 2014 to be closer to family and longtime friends. They especially enjoyed Sunday dinners with Carol's extended family in the Corvallis area. Carol spent the last few years of her life as a resident of Heritage House, a memory care facility located across the street from the Methodist church in Woodburn. On July 22, 2021, after a bout with pneumonia, she peacefully passed away, with her family at her side.
Carol is survived by her husband of 54 years, Marv; two sons, Jeff and Greg; Greg's wife Seana; and granddaughters Harper and Grace, as well as her brother Bernie Davis and his wife Helen.
Carol will be remembered for her bright smile and cheerful demeanor, her generosity, and her great organizational skills. She celebrated all life occasions with greeting cards, flowers, and gatherings. She loved and cared for everyone around her, and we all loved her back.
A memorial service will be held for Carol on Sunday, September 5, at 2:00 p.m. at the Woodburn United Methodist Church, 700 N. Cascade Drive in Woodburn. An informal reception will follow at the OGA golf club in Woodburn.
