Carol Richards, master quilter, died on August 21, 2024 in Northfield, MN. She was born September 6,1933 in Mahnomen, MN and during her long life she lived in Mahnomen; Biloxi, MS; Tokyo, Japan; Palo Alto, CA; Santa Rosa, CA; Evergreen, CO and Northfield, MN.
She graduated from Mahnomen High School and Sonoma State University, Rohnert Park, CA. Carol was employed for many years by the U.S. Civil Service.
Four of Carol's designed, sewn and hand quilted quilts were accepted for collection, two by the International Quilt Museum at the University of Nebraska Lincoln and two by the Goldstein Museum of Design University of Minnesota, Falcon Heights, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Richards; her parents, Paul and Lorraine Luhman; her sisters Elizabeth Smith, Marjorie Gill and Ruth Lewis; and her brothers Francis Luhman and John Donald Luhman.
Survivors include step son William Martin, step daughter Deborah Richards-Cockerham as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Also missing her are many friends as well as the birds and squirrels around her Northfield home.
Friends are encouraged to join the family and share what would have been Carol's 91st birthday on Friday, September 6th, for cake and coffee and reviewing some of the many photos from Carol's collection, at 2:00 PM at the Northfield Arts Guild 2nd Floor, 304 Division Street South, Northfield MN.
