Carol Loftin, 78, of Sacramento, CA, died peacefully at her daughter's residence on December 19, 2020, with family members and her dog Duke at her side.
Carol was born to Frank and Rosemarie (Lenz) Recker on March 9, 1942 in the Ellsworth, MN hospital.
She graduated from St. Mary's grade school and Ellsworth high school. She finished a licensed practical nurse program in Pierre, SD. She then went on to Presentation School of Nursing in Aberdeen and attained her license as a registered nurse. She continued to serve others for 50 years.
After graduating, she joined the military and served as an army nurse (1964-71). While in the army, she attained the rank of captain and served with the 8th field hospital in Nha Trang, Vietnam (65-66) and Germany 98th General, Neubrucke (66-68). For her service she was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 bronze service stars, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and 2 Overseas Service Bars. Additionally, the day before Valentine's Day while assigned to Fort Riley, Kansas she met her former husband George "Tony" Loftin who was working with the Military Police.
On September 27, 1963, Carol was featured on page 42, of Time magazine as a nurse involved in the birth of quintuplets in Aberdeen, SD. She greatly enjoyed the hobbies of reading, numerology and tapping.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children: Jeffery (Maria); Alicia, grandson Derek, granddaughters Desiree (Matt) Chavez-Carscadden, Crystal (Drew) Chavez-Venegas, great-grandson Dawnovan Carscadden, in CA; sisters Norma Hawley, CO, and Narcy Recker, Sioux Falls, SD; brother-in-law Daryle Boelman, MT, many nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, sister Jean Boelman, and brother-in-law Larry Hawley.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Those wishing to send condolences or memorials may send to 9055 Concerto Court, Elk Grove, CA 95758. In lieu of flowers or donations the family requests those wishing to contribute donate to Carol's favorite charities Breast Cancer Research Foundation or the Sacramento SPCA.
