On Tuesday, January 12, 2021, Carol Elaine Frantzis, loving wife, mother, and Yiayia passed away at the age of 73. Carol was born on June 14, 1947 in Madison, WI to Franklyn and Elizabeth Timm. She graduated from the Methodist-Kahler School of Nursing, at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN in 1969 with her R.N. degree. She practiced as a caring and devoted nurse for 35 years until the physical nature of the job became too much to bear. On December 12, 1971 she married Dr. Theodosios (Ted) George Frantzis. They raised one son, Franklyn, and two daughters, Lea and Georganna.
Whether at family events, or just running errands around town she spread joy wherever she went. Carol had a passion for reading and was never seen without a book. She loved mysteries, thrillers, and especially medical thrillers. Nothing got past her. Whether it was a book or a movie, she always solved the "whodunit" before anyone else. She also had a passion for cooking. People who would eat over at her house would frequently ask why our family would ever dine out. She was famous for her rum cake, grapeleaves, and feta artichoke dip. She had a passion for her dogs and cats as well. Most notably were her German Shepherds, Kasey and Thor. After three difficult back surgeries, they were always there watching over her, and would show up immediately to assist her around the house.
But Carol's biggest passion was her family. She was a most selfless person who always put others needs ahead of her own. Her love for her four grandchildren was boundless. She showered them with gifts, kisses, and her legendary hugs. Her grandchildren will always remember the precious time they shared with their beautiful Yiayia.
Carol was preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth Timm, her father, Franklyn Timm, her step-mother, Nell Timm, and her brother, Douglas Timm. Her father, Franklyn, was a World War II veteran. Her brother, Doug, was a sniper and a Marine Captain, and was awarded a purple heart for his service in Vietnam.
Carol is survived by her husband, Dr. Theodosios Frantzis, Tarpon Springs, her son, Franklyn Frantzis (wife Lauren), Palm Harbor, her daughter, Lea Barlow (husband Scott), St. Petersburg, and her daughter Georganna Frantzis, Tarpon Springs. She is survived by four grandchildren, Breyanna, Thi, Tennison, and Grayson. She is also survived by her brother Timothy Timm, Minneapolis, MI, her sister Marie Prescott, Green Bay, WI, her sister Pamela Timm, Madison, WI, and her brother Richard Timm, Austin, TX.
A wake will be held on Monday, January 18th, 2021 from 6:00 pm to 8:00pm at Dobies Funeral Home, 701 E. Tarpon Ave., Tarpon Springs, FL 34689. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 19th, 2021 at 11:00 am at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 36 N. Pinellas Ave., Tarpon Springs, FL 34689.
It was Carol's wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of charitable donations to the American Cancer Society.
