Carol J. Edwards, beloved and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on Wednesday, March 30, following a brief illness.
Carol is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald (Jerry) Edwards; her parents, Ralph and Susan Judd; her two sisters, Louise (Judd) Ball and Sharon Judd; and grandson, Alan Buettner. Carol is survived by her children, John (Connie) Edwards, Beth (Lyle) Buettner, and David (Kerstin) Edwards; grandchildren, Josh (Lindsey) Inda, Justin (Sarah) Inda, Hans (Nora) Korth, Mitchell (Amanda) Korth, Daniel and Markus Edwards; and eight great-grandchildren.
Carol was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, on April 12, 1933. She graduated with an RN degree from Hamlin University in St. Paul in 1955 and began her life-long career of nursing. She married Jerry Edwards on July 14, 1956. They started their life together in Waunakee, Wisconsin, followed by moves to Ohio, Wisconsin, Iowa, and back to Wisconsin to pursue Jerry's job opportunities in education. Throughout her life and the many moves, Carol made very dear friends in each community through United Methodist Women, Caring Ministry, and Meals on Wheels. Carol loved to entertain in her home, and she hosted many meals and coffee for family and friends. The door was always open and the coffee pot was always on. She loved to sew and quilt, and she followed the Wisconsin Badgers, Milwaukee Brewers, and the Green Bay Packers.
Her bright light and beautiful spirit will be greatly missed by her family and friends. We wish to thank the St. Elizabeth's Hospital Emergency and Hospice teams for their gentle and loving care of Carol and the family.
A memorial service for Carol is planned for Saturday, April 23, at 12:30 p.m. at Emmanuel United Methodist Church located at 740 East College Avenue, Appleton, Wisconsin. Gifts of remembrance can be given to the Emmanuel United Methodist Church Memorial Fund which will be used to support community outreach and its education programs. If you prefer, you may remember Carol through random acts of financial kindness within your community as this practice was another way she spread God's love to others.
