Carol Ann Burns, age 75, passed away on July 18, 2022, surrounded by her loving friends and family. She was born on May 22, 1947, to John and Eleanor Morgiewicz in Port Jervis, N.Y. She is survived by one child, Rebecca Burns (Travis George), as well as three stepchildren, Diana Derivan (Steve), Donna Charlton (William) and Greg Burns (Lisa), seven step-grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren, whom she adored. She is also survived by her two siblings, sister Ann Dilger (Richard), brother John Morgiewicz (Debbie), and her beloved nieces, nephews, great niece and great nephew. She was predeceased by Ronald J. Burns, her husband of over 30 years, as well as her parents, brother Frank Morgiewicz and godson Jerry Dilger.
Carol grew up in Sparrow Bush, N.Y., and after graduating high school in 1964, she attended the Laboratory Institute of Merchandising in New York City. She was a professional buyer at such notable stores as B. Altman and Co., Stern's and Bloomingdale's. She also worked in advertising sales at New York magazine. While living in the city, Carol would frequently travel to Boston, which is where she met her husband. They moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., in 1985. Carol became a realtor in 1988 when she joined Watson Realty in Ponte Vedra. She joined Berry & Co. Real Estate in 1993 as part of the Ponte Vedra Carlyle sales team. After Rebecca was born, Carol took a break from real estate to pursue her passion for design and co-founded the retail home decor and gift shop Mineral City, in 1997 with Laura Howson, who still owns and operates the store today. Carol rejoined Berry & Co. Real Estate as an active agent and continued to work there until her passing.
Carol was a devout Catholic, proud to have served as an active member of her previous church, Our Lady Star of the Sea, and most recently Holy Family Catholic Church. She also enjoyed traveling with Ron and Rebecca. They went on many trips and cruises around the world to places all over Europe, Africa, Asia and to her favorite place of all, Medjugorje. She left a great impact on her community that will remain for generations. A funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 9800 Baymeadows Road, Jacksonville 32256 at 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 23, followed by the family's reception of friends.
