Carol Bishop Kahler, age 86 formerly of Rome, NY, passed away in Timonium, MD on November 10, 2019 after a long illness. She was the daughter of John and Mildred Bishop and the beloved wife of Harry R. Kahler, formerly of Oriskany, NY, who she married in July1953. Carol leaves behind, in addition to her husband, Harry, four children: Barbara, Larry, Christopher, and Steven; 12 Grandchildren; 9 Great Grandchildren; and a sister, Marilyn Stixrud of Albuqurque, NM.
Carol graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1950 where she was an excellent student and an avid swimmer. She attended Cortland College where she was enrolled in their Physical Education curricula.
Carol was devoted to her family. The family always came first. She made many invaluable contributions to her husband's career. In support of that career, she managed multiple moves of the family to numerous parts of the U. S., identifying and settling in to new living quarters while simultaneously ensuring that the children's schooling and activities were always promptly and effectively addressed and that the family was smoothly integrated into the new community. Most importantly, she taught the children life skills that still remain with them today.
Her interests were many. The major ones included home decorating and design (she became an expert at this); real estate sales ( she held a Brokers license in Massachusets and a Sales license in Maryland); celebrating the holidays and family gatherings; watching sporting events and meeting and engaging with people. A most significant accomplishment of hers was the founding of the Youth Basketball Program in Acton, Massachusetts in 1969. This program has expanded in size and scope and is still operational today.
We are forever grateful for all the gifts that Carol's life brought to us.
The long goodbye is now finally over and we miss her so very, very, much. Our love for her will never extinguish.
