Carol Sue Berg (n?e Hildinger), age 82, went to be with her Lord at her home in Leesburg, Florida on August 23, 2022. She was born on March 24, 1940, in Granite City, Illinois, the eldest daughter of Carl and Myrle (Sisson) Hildinger. After graduating from Grant Community High School in Fox Lake, Illinois, she attended beauty school and became a sought-after hairdresser at both Buarle's and Trudy's salons. After leaving the industry, she would continue to do her family's hair for many years.
On September 3, 1960, she married her high school sweetheart, and the love of her life, Forrest O. Berg, Jr. Through years of hard work, they lived a rich and full life together, working side by side in launching and running several successful businesses, all while raising two adored children and later, doting on two adored grandchildren.
Those who were closest to Carol would describe her as an excellent judge of character, strong minded, fiercely loyal, having a playful sense of humor, and, most importantly, as someone who was kind beyond measure. Even more important than her own enjoyment, Carol loved to see smiles on the faces of family and friends when she could share these experiences with them. In fact, Carol was happiest when she could make her loved ones happy ? something she instinctively knew how to do.
Carol had a keen eye for fashion and had a singular design aesthetic, mixing and matching her favorite color palettes in her wardrobe and her home. She also loved soaking up the sun while going on many cruises or semi-annual holiday family trips to the beach, something her grandchildren always looked forward to and remember fondly.
Carol's faith was an important part of her life. Since 1987, Carol was an active member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Leesburg, serving as both a monthly greeter and a member of the church council. She also co-taught Adult Sunday school with her husband, Forrest, and for several years, Carol and Forrest took communion to people in nursing homes and shut ins.
Carol is survived by her loving husband, Forrest, of 61 years, her son Jeffrey Berg (Matt Pereira) of Brooklyn, New York, her daughter, Cynthia Caruso (Paul) of Leesburg, her grandson, Andrew Caruso of Mount Dora, her granddaughter, Nicole Caruso of Orlando, her brother, Ronald Hildinger of Lake Villa, Illinois, her sister Beverly Smith (Dave) of Solon Mills, Illinois, sister in law, Carol (Richard) Aird of Spring Grove, Illinois, and many adored nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Larry Hildinger, sister-in-law, Elia "Candy" Hildinger, brothers-in-law, Kendall Ruff, Kendall Berg, and Kevin Berg.
Visitation is Friday, September 9th from 4-7 p.m. at Beyer's Funeral Home at 101 S. 11th Street, Leesburg, Florida.
A Celebration of Carol's life will take place Saturday, September 10th at 11:00 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church at 130 S. Lone Oak Drive, Leesburg, Florida.
